Jordan Todosey’s character Adam has become a fan favorite, but not so easy for many teens to relate to. Well, Jordan is determined to do the best she can to portray Adam in an accurate way. Learn about how she prepared, walking on the Degrassi set the first time, and if she’s more a girly girl or a tomboy.
1. Did you audition for the show knowing you would be taking on one of the most challenging roles both behaviorally and controversially?
When I auditioned for Adam, I was told to play an androgynous girl (they didn’t want storylines to be leaked), but once I was booked for the role I then found out that Adam was a female to male transgender. Of course I was pleasantly surprised and couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into this new juicy role.
2. Are you normally a tomboy or a bit girlier? Did either of these make your role more or less difficult?
I always grew up hanging with the boys and digging for worms in the backyard, but as I get older I’m slowly becoming more and more girly! I still love the punk side to me, and having a very tomboy history gives me a chance to bring that back and incorporate it in Adam.
3. How did you prepare for your role as Adam? What is the hardest part about playing him?
To prepare for this role I did a bit of research on transgender teens, although sometimes it’s best to trust the writers as they have done most research for this character! A hard part is portraying Adam to the best of my abilities and with complete authenticity and to not make a mockery of him.
4. If someone walked onto the Degrassi set for the first time, what vibe would they get?
I’m sure they would get a very relaxed and chill vibe. We’re all like a family and I’m sure you’d feel welcome!
5. Degrassi is in its tenth season. Do you think this made you set high expectations for yourself when joining the cast?
Degrassi is obviously a well-established series with a talented cast, so sure it was intimidating. But honestly we all became quick friends, and Epitome Pictures is amazing at encouraging and developing actors to bring out the best in themselves.
