Automatic Loveletter Interview

Crazy, confident and talented girls are hard to find these days, but Juliet Simms of Automatic Loveletter is a diamond in the rough. If you asked her who was having the most fun on Warped Tour, she would probably tell you how she is having more fun than anybody. We caught up with her in Hartford last week and learned a ton about Automatic Loveletter’s new album, Truth or Dare. But we also heard about the Gypsy Queens, her slight crush on Tyson Ritter, and how she makes the most of every Warped Tour day.

Tell a secret about yourself and everyone in the band.
Oh wow. A secret about myself… I’m really crazy, and I know it.
Tommy has a baby, that’s not a secret, but you might not know… so it’s not a secret.
Ryan, our drummer, is probably the coolest, nicest, sweetest guy in the world.
And Clint might be good looking, but he’s the biggest fucking nerd I’ve ever met.
What advice would you give to girls who want to sing or be in a band like yourself?
Just fucking do it. With all the power in your body, just don’t give up. Just keep going and don’t let people say you can’t do it, because those people are the people who can’t do it.
Your new album Truth or Dare just came out. What inspired the album and the title?
The album was a collection of songs I’ve written over the last couple of years, and last year, some new stuff. The reason I named it Truth or Dare is because the last eight years of my life I’ve been so crazy it’s almost like I’ve been playing a game of Truth or Dare.
How has the fan response been and do you have any favorite songs on it?
Fade Away is my favorite song. And the fan response has been awesome. We have the best fans in the world, so thank you guys so much.
Awhile ago you sang on “Remembering Sunday” by All Time Low. Do you have any plans to sing on other band’s records?
I don’t have any plans as of now, but Tyson Ritter, All-American Rejects… you know you want this. You know you want this on your fucking records.
What are your plans for after Warped Tour?
We’re going to Japan, and then we’re going to come back and we’re going to tour.
What bands on Warped Tour have you been watching lately?
I catch everybody! Andrew W.K., Hey Monday, VersaEmerge, The Summer Set, The Casualties I saw yesterday, Motion City Soundtrack. I just look at the list on the bus everyday and I say “I got time” and I go and I watch!
On Warped Tour compared to normal tours there’s a lot more girls on tour. Have you found that the girls have been bonding more than the guys?
Yes! The girls, it’s me, Jac, Nicole, Sierra, Jess from The Summer Set, and a few other girls have created and formed the Gypsy Queen Pack.
Do you think all of you will go out on a tour again?
Definitely. Sierra and I have a plan to take over the world together. We’re going to be the rulers of it.
You’re both from Florida, right?
Yeah!
So have you known each other forever?
Not forever, no. But we hangout like every single day when we’re not on the road.
That’s pretty much it, do you have anything else you’d like to add?
I have to pee.

miss juliet is awesome, i want to be her friend. There are not many girls who are cool enough to rock hard with music and still have a savvy personality! I love that she powers up with the other ladies, and also checks out other bands on tour. A lot of artists will say they don’t have time.. but I like that she states the opposite. ALL is my new favorite band of the moment!
