Score 24 Interview

Long Island natives Score 24 are proving to be one hard working pop punk band in the scene. These ultra friendly down to Earth guys are working a constant tour schedule. Luckily they took some time out of their visit home to talk with us. This is what they had to say.

Could you introduce yourselves and your position in the band.

Rob: Ok, well I’m Rob and I’m the lead singer.

Joe: I’m Joe and I play guitar and sing.

So how did you get your bands name?

Rob: Our bands name, we were actually on tour in Ohio and we stopped in a Chinese food restaurant and we ate a dinner that was very delicious. When we were done we each got a fortune cookie. I grabbed mine and opened it up and it told me that I should name my band Score 24. And that was it.

How did the band form?

Rob: Well my brother Joey, and our other guitarist Paul were all in the same boy scout troop and we all got in to music so we started playing with one of our other friends. As time went on we had to get rid of our old drummer, we got a new one, his name is Ryan. Then from there we decided that we were going to get a bassist and Tom who is our bassist now was booking all our shows at the time and we asked him to come in and tour with the band.

You guys are going to be touring with Patent Pending, excited for that?

Rob: We actually just did a two week tour with them and it went very well. So we’re kind of excited. We’re both coming out with new CDs around the same time. So we’re very excited, they’re very cool guys, we’ve known them for a while now. They’re awesome.

So what’s going on with Warped Tour?

Rob: Warped Tour as of right now, we’re doing the dates up on our Myspace. We’re touring with Amnesty International, helping them out and playing acoustic sets in their tent.

What’s your favorite thing about touring?

Rob: My favorite thing about touring would have to be not having a set of rules you have to follow everyday. You know you’re kind of just doing you. Doing whatever you feel like doing. Getting to do a show, meeting a whole bunch of new people, which is definitely one of the pluses out of touring. I like meeting new people, I love talking to fans and stuff like that.

Joe: My favorite part is being away from one part of the country and Long Island is so different from California and Texas. It’s a lot different. It’s not just the area, it’s the people and being other places in comparison to where we are from.

Do you guys have a favorite venue or city that you enjoy playing?

Rob: When we’re home, we love playing the Crazy Donkey, the Vibe Lounge. It’s always fun, our friends come out. In Jersey we really enjoy playing School of Rock and in Pennsylvania we like the Crock Rock (Crocodile Rock Cafe). We love California. When we went over to California we made a lot of new friends. Texas was also really cool.

Any favorite songs that you like to perform?

Rob: As of right now we’re really going over all of our new stuff from our new CD.

Joe: My favorite is “Let’s Go Sailing.”

If you could categorize your band members in to high school stereotypes, which would they be?

Joe: I would be skater.

Rob: Our drummer Ryan would definitely be skater who didn’t really care about doing anything but sleeping or playing the drums. I would probably be more nerdy.

Joe: He’d be getting all his things done for school.

Rob: Tom would probably be the nerd that was trying to get with all the girls. Joey was class president so I would put him in that category and Paul has always been known as the class clown kind of guy, always having fun.

If you could pick the bands, living or dead, to form your ideal tour, which would you choose?

Joe: The Beatles and Bob Dylan.

Rob: Blink 182. Watching any of their DVDs is exciting.

Joe: They’re very graceful yet insane.

Rob: Also, Lady Gaga. She’s just kind of nuts.

Could you tell us a secret about each member in your band?

Rob: Tom loves underage girls, but he doesn’t do anything, it’s more something we joke about. Paul wears turtle necks year ‘round whether it’s under his t-shirt or sweatshirt. He always wears a turtle neck. Ryan is only 17, not a lot of people know that. I have a better secret than that, Ryan has a super hot sister.

Joe: That’s right.

Rob: That’s a good secret. Joey’s secret, Joey is a neat freak. Joey has super OCD.

Joe: Rob has super ADD, he can’t sit still no matter what and he keeps touching everything.

What else do you guys have planned for 2010?

Joe: A year of peace and love.

Rob: We’re changing our sound a little bit, but we’re not changing too much.

Joe: More poppy alternative.

Rob: We’re spending some time at home and then going out on tour again. We’re not sure with who yet, but we’re talking to some big bands. We’re coming out with new merch and we’re going to be coming out with tank tops, sunglasses maybe. We’re just hoping to come out with new stuff that everyone is going to love.

Is there anything that you’d like to say to the fans?

Joe: We love you.

Rob: Yeah. I’d like to say that they’re a part of this band and that they make us who we are everyday. If you only know us from listening to a CD and stuff like that, you’re not going to know us really until you come out to a show.
