We Shot The Moon Interview

A few months ago we got to speak with Jonathan from We Shot The Moon. The band recently released their new album A Silver Lining, and I highly suggest checking it out. Learn about the new record, and the time Jonathan got naked on tour…

First off, introduce yourself and your role in the band.
My name is Jonathan and I play the piano and sing, for We Shot the Moon.

You have a new album that comes out online tomorrow right?
We do! It’s very exciting; it’s called A Silver Lining.  It’s been a long time in the making and its going to be a big release to have it out so people can have the opportunity to get it.

Do you have a favorite track on the album or a favorite part?
I’d say the song would either be “Woke Her Up” or “Candles.”  Those two songs definitely lyrically mean the most to me.  The lyrics on A Silver Lining are pretty honest, like they’re all true stories, comin’ from real life perspective.

Is there any significant difference in this album compared to your last release?
Oh yeah, big time!  The quality of the production/recording quality is much higher.  The producer we worked with this time really pushed us and really got the best out of us.  He took our songs and kinda diced them up and we were really pleased with the final product.  In the past we’ve never really worked with a producer so he really just enhanced our sound and really brought some different dimensions to our sound that we didn’t have before.  We have a few kinda tasteful electronic drum beats that really changed the dynamic of our sound, in a positive way.

Is there any artist or album that you can’t stop listening to right now?
Well Sherwood’s new record, called QU, is phenomenal.  They did kind of a 180 change of style a little bit.  They happen to be our good friends too, I’m really not biased; they’re record really sounds amazing!  Anyone who has never heard of Sherwood definitely needs to take a listen.

You toured with them last year right?
We did, we did a round with them back in February of last year.

Do you have any funny stories from high school or tour?
Tour….yeah I got naked once, in Virginia.  We were backing up the trailer, I was having a stressful day and I just kinda got naked.  It was in the middle of night, I’m not that weird.  It was really random, kind of liberating though.  I got naked and started screaming.  I had had a couple of beers that night, maybe one too many and I got myself naked out in the middle of the street.

How did the band come together?
Um well Waking Ashland broke up I took a moment to reflect on life and through that reflection I was still deeply passionate about music and had more to say.  I made some phone calls to people I had met along the way who I thought would be good to play music with…that’s kinda how We Shot the Moon formed.  It’s really bizarre, through many phone calls and like I need someone and they’d need someone.  We kind of formed through word-of-mouth, it’s funny.

What would be your dream tour lineup with any groups dead or alive?
Switchfoot for me personally speaking, Coldplay and Jimmy Eat World…that’d be nice!

Do you have any plans or do you know what you expect to be doing once The Silver Lining tour ends?
We were up for a couple tours that we didn’t get but I think we’re just going to go home and like oddly enough, start working on our next record.  We’re going to start touring in early January on The Silver Lining.  We’re committed to playing 300+ shows on The Silver Lining.  It’s going to be quite a journey, its just beginning…it starts tomorrow!
